After beginning these art events in Birmingham 7 months ago, I have met the most kind hearted, beautiful, creative souls in this city. Through these interactions I found, unsurprisingly, that the creative community is one that puts action into the things they care about. The genocide in Gaza is heartbreaking, and often times we can feel very helpless, as Western governments fuel the fire (literally) instead of enabling de-escalation and delivering aid. What we've seen in the past 3 years, has been the people - the everyday person full of heart - stepping up to the plate. From nurses flying out to Gaza to help the sick and wounded, to millions protesting in the streets of London every weekend for months on end. There are ways in which we have expressed our voice and put action into resolving as much as we can for the people of Palestine.

PAINT FOR PALESTINE came about because I wanted to contribute more than the usual '£3 a month'. I hope that as a collective, we can raise a small but significant donation for local fundraisers in Gaza, and make a little difference, as well as coming together to talk, make art keep stories from Gaza alive. There is no pressure at all to talk about the genocide - it can be overwhelming to talk about when anxieties are present - but this can be an opportunity for you to make a small donation and relax in a safe space, make some art and meet lovely people!

Included:

• Art supplies - I'm talking watercolour paints, acrylic paint pens, pencils & oil pastels. Its a mixed media vibe for you to fully express yourself creatively.

• Food - vegan falafel, chips and salad platters cooked by Pitalicious, and kindly covered and donated by Under Pressure Espresso (two local businesses in Sutton Coldfield)

• Drinks - available to purchase at the venue.

• Free Art Print - included with the 3RD TICKET TIER purchase. Otherwise, there will be prints of my original artwork 'To The Sea', available to buy to raise further money for the Gaza fundraisers. See below:

The aid crisis is huge, but I have found 2 fundraisers to contribute to - small organizations run by the people in Gaza for which every single penny counts.

The first is 'Gaza Sunbirds'.

They are Palestine's first paracycling team. A group of cyclists, brought together by Karam Ali. A national cyclist who was shot by an Israeli sniper just months before he was due to compete in an international cycling competition. Founded in 2020, the group had been working together for Palestinian rights in sports before the current genocide. Since then, they have used their bicycles to deliver thousands of pounds worth of aid to communities in the rubble and in refuge shelters. Their bravery and determination is truly honourable and I'd like to contribute 2/3 of the funds raised to their organisation.

The second group is 'The Sameer Project'.

The Sameer Project started out as a small group providing tents and shelter but as the genocide evolved, they have expanded to redistributing food, water and medical aid too. They remain an 'unicorporated mutual aid group' - they are not a registered charity but supported and hosted by 'The Social Change Nest CIC' & 'Small Steps Project'. A small organisation with a big heart, they continue to operate under siege doing the most they can for the people of Gaza.

I encourage anyone joining the event to have a little read through the websites of these 2 organisations to gain insight into how they work and for more context on the aid distribution realities in Gaza.

Whatever drew you in to this event, I hope to come together and share this space for the evening, and hopefully feel some inspiration to make change and let your creativity free.

Tickets are TIERED. If you are able to, please donate in the 2nd or 3rd ticket tier, as each additional donation helps to send more to the people of Gaza and keep events like this going. There is an affordable option too if you wish to join and can't contribute more at this time!
